The factory fuel filter, was installed level horizontally at a height that was slightly higher than the inlet of the carb. It also had a hard-line with a loop in it, between the filter and the carb. This prevents fuel from draining back to the pump, and makes start-ups faster. The fuel return line on the factory filter serves 2 purposes.
Ditch the teed return line. That isn't doing you any good. Now connect it to the vent fitting that vents the rear (tallest) part of the tank so that the fuel is actually circulating back to the tank. Now connect the front tank vent to the main tank vent high up in the fender near where it joins the filler neck.

Sense it's a 95, if the stock pump in the tank is still functional then you just need a pressure reducer specific for carbs. New Evap Charcoal Canister from AC Delco. Bottom port is TANK input and connected to the line coming off top of the check valve. Top input is Purge and is connected to my air filter. Purge signal line coming from bottom of air filter. #1 · Jun 19, 2015. The rubber lines that run between the tank sending unit and the metal underbody lines sprung a leak and need replacement. This is the fuel supply line, the return line, and the tank vent. I have everything disconnected and the tank is already removed. However, I can't seem to extract the 3 lines.
The top one goes to the return line. The return line connects to the extra nipple in the sending unit on the top of the gas tank. The lower outflow line on the filler goes to the carb. It is not uncommon to hear of guys removing the return line during a mod but in the end the line always needs to be restored in order for the engine to run properly.

Your fuel filter should have two ports on one side of it; one goes to the carb and the other to the vent on the gas tank.
