Once it is out of Park, release the parking brake and let the truck roll a bit, and then re-apply the parking brake. Now you can release the lever to allow the transmission to go back to Park. Try this and see if it helps, if it does not, then you should be still covered for a warranty repair. .

You could have intermittent electric issues that prevent this from working properly, possible bad solenoid.
