There are two ways to play multiplayer, you either join a lobby of 4 hunters, wait for one of them to cr8 a quest, and join it via the quest board and everyone departs together (i.e old gen MH) or you search for Join Requests (a.k.a SOS flares) via the ... Wifi is finicky on the Switch in MHR. Try switching between 2.4 and 5 signals for wifi. Mine works better on 5 GHz and on 2.4 I have that problem fairly consistently with MHR. No multiplayer issues on other games using 2.4 so something is rise is buggy. If your router doesn't have 5ghz connection then it is probably time to upgrade.
