The hammer was proabley up in the fired position when you tried to install the slide. The hammer must be down when you install the slide. About to problem with the barrel rubbing aganist the slide. Check under the slide and look at the top front of the ejection port and make sure there are no little bumps there.

Pry off the Take Down Pin. Pull the slide slightly to the rear about 1/16" and then with a small flat head screwdriver, pry the take down pin, upwards until it is loose. Remove Take Down Pin. Remove the take down pin out of the frame of the Ruger LCP. Remove the Slide From the Frame of the Ruger LCP.

Sorry I am so late with the outcome. My Gunsmith said it was a bad barrel. I contacted Ruger and in about a week I had it back with a new barrel. Works like a charm now. Ruger has great customer service! The gun tears the tar out of my trigger finger though. this is when firing 50 or more rounds. Perfect summer CCW.
