I was trying .22 long cb caps, so I figured the odd ammo caused the problem. I cycled the cartridge out, it ejected fine, with the bullet intact.You can tell the difference between the two types by putting a thumb on the hammer spur, pulling and then releasing the trigger, and then using your thumb to lower the hammer. Both my model 99's, one from circa 1920 and the other from the early 1960's, will decock by pulling the trigger back just as the lever closes. When closing the action, you'll feel noticiable increased resistance the last inch or so, that's when to pull the trigger so the sear releases as the action closes the bolt.
