With more range than Stygius, the Spear can be used for jabbing attacks and long-range throws. There are so many builds it's hard to say. General rule of thumb is to go Zeus/Dioynsus for fast attacks, Artemis/Aphrodite/Athena for higher base damage attacks, and Ares doom for something in between. So Zeus might be useful for attack (especially if you get the Flurry Jab hammer) and Ares/Zeus for the special. ME is best on Fists; SS is also pretty good with the Rail.
