Finally I learned if I sprayed WD40 or lithium grease on the junction of the linkage (from behind the tractor, on left side) it would move in to and out of engagement much easier. I do not use the tractor that much now, just mowing 4 - 6 acres ...

4-Another possibility may be that pto shaft after the clutch is twisted off like the picture below, but saying that the pto brake still works much lessens that potential.
