On my last hunt with the 300 Mag, I used the 200 ELD-X on two cow nilgai, I tested one cow with double lung shot, complete pass through, no bullet recovery and the 2nd nilgai was broadside and it shattered the shoulder, and destroyed the lungs and did not leave a mark on the inside opposite shoulder.

Deer opens Oct. 10 and Elk Oct 15th. So plan is to hunt deer first 4 days and scout at the same time for Elk. I have an X Bolt 300 WSM and X Bolt 300 Win Mag. They have Leupold CDS scopes on both. Was going to go with just the 300 WSM but now will probably also take the 300 Win Mag just in case. The area we will be hunting is steep open areas.I am currently using RL-22, Federal 215M primer and 180 AB's. It is working OK but I am looking to squeak all the accuracy I can out of this rifle. Does anyone have any proven "go to" loads for the 300 wm?

Per Hodgdon you can go as low as 60% of their max load with H4895. I would NOT down load that big case with any other powder personally.
