Get some rtv gasket maker put a good bead around the plate and put it on, let the gasket sealer set for a few mins before fully tightening.

Seen enough of the 70s eat up the clutches by not adding enough slip lube. When I service any 70 or 80 min amount is 1 1/2 bottles in the 70 and 2 in the 80.

You did it right. The Dana 300 takes a GL5 rated gear oil, same as the diffs. No additives needed. The transmission however takes a GL4 rated gear oil or synchromesh fluid.
