TOME you can jump right into and do relatively well on normal difficulty. There are a lot of talents to read about and choose from, a lot of races and classes. Inscription system and zone order are a bit confusing at first. But not too bad. TOME is like Diablo 2 turn based roguelike arcade game. ADOM feels sort of like Dungeons and Dragons.

For the most part it's dangerous, but again, circumstances vary. I pretty much only play ToME for my roguelike these days, and I use a mix of autoexplore and shift+direction depending on the area. On the other hand, I feel like TOME is probably the most complete, longest, broadest, biggest Roguelike I play. It feels immense, unending. I spend my gaming hours mostly rotating between TOME, Cogmind, and Caves of Qud (all games developed by small teams or even just one person!).
