I don't use anything else. However, in the Huntsman,I use two fifty gr. Triple Seven pellets under a sabot with a 250 gr. XTP, and I can regulate the .45-70 to hit the same POI as the Huntsman. IMR4064 is a very slow powder for the 45-70. I doubt you can get enough of it in the case to reach dangerous pressures. 55 grains compressed under a 405 grain bullets only generates 26,700 CUP. The Marlin 1895 45-70 has a safe operating pressure of 40,000 CUP.

Not sure how it will work in 45/70 but found BD works well in 30/40 and 30/06 using max load of UNIQUE as a starting load, and starting load of 2400 as max. Use 1.5 to 2.0 grains of poly fill to hold the powder against the primer. get it at a Wal Mart or a fabric shop. i have found it helps very much.
